Sweet Pea - Blue Vein

Plants

Sale price$9.00

Blue Vein is an incredibly uniquely coloured sweet pea bred by NZ's Keith Hammett. It starts out a unique shade of warm orange, but it's true magic is as the petals fade the veins slowly turn a deep purply blue!

I first grew it many years ago, and was instantly smitten but ever since the seeds have been incredibly hard to come by, last season we managed to grow our some of our precious few seeds and they put on such an incredible show, but they are a little shy on setting seeds, but we managed to save just enough seeds for us to share plants with you this season.

Being a modern grandiflora sweet pea its flowers & stems are a little smaller than the spencers. Summer flowering.

Note: our sweet pea plants are a little on the smaller side, but they are just starting to branch out and on the verge of their spring growth spurt. They will last a couple or so more weeks in their pots, but they will be their best selves if planted soon. Make sure not to disturb their roots as much as possible when planting.  Our sweet peas have been grown outside so should be hardened to similar mild climates like ours, but we have had to cover them with mikroclima to keep our quails off them which has seen the odd spots form on older leaves, but we've found that is reasonably normal for older sweet pea leaves, and so long as they're actively growing they'll outgrow it in no time.

Please note, we have a minimum plant order of $45 (approx. 5 plants) – you can mix & match any plants to meet the minimum.

Our plant boxes can fit up to 10 plants per box.

Plant orders are shipped on Mondays (& Tuesdays).

See our Shipping Page for more info.

Lathyrus odoratus

Plant Type: Hardy Annual

Ideal Location: Full Sun

Spacing: 22cm

Height: 150cm+

Sweet peas will need something to climb to be their best selves. Quails love their tender young shoots, so if you have them around sweet peas will need some sort of protection until they are really up and starting to climb out of their reach.
