CELOSIA - Summer Sherbet

Floret Original Seeds

Sale price$25.50
Celosia argentea plumosa

This beautiful, free-flowering mix produces giant velvety plumes in rose-pink, blush, coral, and the softest peach. The heat-loving plants have light apple-green foliage and long, slender stems that are perfect for arranging.

The original stock for this coveted celosia came from famed Texas flower farmers Pamela and Frank Arnosky nearly a decade ago. Floret has continued to refine this mix over time to stabilize the colours and flower forms.

Please note that this variety is still a work in progress and is not 100% uniform, so you will undoubtedly find a few off types in the mix. Floret will continue to refine and improve this selection, but are making it available before it’s “perfect” for you to grow and enjoy.

Approx 100 seeds per packet
Planting Details:

Planting depth: 3mm (⅛ inch)
Germination soil temp: 21–26°C (70°F–80°F)
Days to germination: 5 to 7 days

Site: full sun
Plant spacing: 22–30cm (9–12 inches)
Pinch: when 15–20cm tall (6–8 inches)
Days to maturity: 90 to 100 days

Height: 90 to 120cm

How to Grow:

Sow seeds indoors in trays or pots 4 to 6 weeks before your last frost. Seeds are tiny, so barely cover with soil. Celosia is very cold sensitive, so wait until all danger of frost has passed before planting outside. Celosia can also be direct-seeded once weather is consistently warm.

Harvest / Vase Life:

Harvest once flower heads reach desired size, but before they go to seed. Strip 80 percent of the foliage off during harvest. Do not put in the cooler. Expect a vase life of 10 to 14 days. Flowers can also be dried for later use. To dry, hang freshly cut stems upside down in a warm, dark place for 2 to 3 weeks or until they are firm to the touch.
