What We're Sowing Now
What we're currently sowing or planning on sowing in the next few weeks.
Daylight savings has begun, there's a definite heat to the sun that has been missing over winter, and we're now clear of frosts (at my farm most likely at least anyways). So now is finally the season of sowing all the tender annuals (heat-loving, frost hating)! Things like Zinnias + Cosmos + Celosia + Amaranthus + Gomphrena. I'll sow successions of them all again later, but we have just sown our first zinnias, and once we have space in the prop house will sow the rest in the next week or two. If you prefer sowing direct in the garden though, might pay to wait a little longer till the soil is just a little bit warmer (Labour Weekend is the traditional time for most locations for that).
We are also sowing semi-regular sowings of the hardy annuals (cool temp loving) that we want to try push through summer (scabiosa + phlox = they're all fiddly to harvest so it's nice to have fresh plantings to start harvesting off just when they're getting into the too annoying category). As well as occassional bits and bobs of agrostemma + nigella + choc lace (choc lace seems to be more heat tolerant-ish than ammi/orlaya so it's our go-to lace over summer).
It's also a good time to sow those semi-hardy flowers like asters + carnations + orach.
I try to time my flowers not to full flush over Christmas when we're on break (quick annuals usually flower roughly in 3 months, and slower 4 months from now on), so we are almost in the clear to go crazy sowing now!
