Pick Your Own Flowers

Sale price$30.00

We're currently inbetween seasons.

Our Pick Your Own Flowers will be back again next January & February 2025.

Come visit the farm and pick your own flowers! We've planted our pick your own patch again and it is a sight to be seen now they're just starting their flush!

It's a true zinnia heaven, they're one of my favourite flowers and as they're one of the most reliable, PYO friendly flowers for these hot summer days - I let myself go crazy planting all the zinnias I'd ever dreamed of!

The pick your own patch is loaded with rainbows of zinnias, snapdragons, amaranthus, strawflowers with marigolds, celosia, & sunflowers slowing coming along.

--

PYO bookings are per 1 adult to visit & harvest 1 measuring jug's worth of flowers (whatever can fit in the jug which is about 25 stems-ish).

Multiple jugs can be purchased per visit if you'd like to harvest larger quantities of flowers.

We'll also have other special stems from elsewhere around the farm (like lisianthus!) pre-harvested and available to purchase by the stem to top up your harvest as well.

You can also bring one friend along just for the fun of tagging along for $5 entry. Young children are welcome to visit (12 & under free) however, harvesting is to be done by adults (or teenagers).

Where to find us

276 Tikorangi Road East

*please note there are (still!) major roadworks at the Princess Street / SH3 Waitara intersection, detours through Waitara will add about 5 minutes to driving times if coming from New Plymouth ways.

What to bring
  • Snips
  • Bucket (to transport your flowers home in - we will supply the measuring jug for you to harvest into while you're here)
  • Hat / Sun Protection - or Rain Jacket if it's wet.
How long do we have to harvest?

Bookings are for 45 minute sessions, starting from the time you booked for, if you are running late you will have a shorter harvest window.

Do you have eftpos to pay for additional stems?

We can accept any chip or paywave cards only (please note our card reader does not work with eftpos cards without chips).

What happens if it's raining?

Our Pick Your Own sessions run in all weather - bookings are non-refundable regardless of the weather.

What happens if I can't make the day/time I booked?

Bookings are non-refundable, but you can nominate a friend or family member to come in your stead. Bookings can also be transferred to alternative days (if there’s spaces available), but this must be arranged 3 full days before your booking. Date changes cannot be be made within three days of your booked picking.

Can I come just to visit the flower farm?

This is solely just for our Pick Your Own Flowers. Keep an eye our for any future Open Days, Tours or Workshops if you would like to have a proper visit and look around the full farm. The rest of the field will not be open for visiting while the Pick Your Own Patch is open.

Can I bring a friend with me to just visit?

Yes you can bring one additional friend ($5 entry) - but note only the Pick Your Own Flower patch is open for visiting - the rest of the farm is closed. You can book & pay for your friend here: Bring a Friend or we can also sort it when you're here on the day too.

Can I take photos?

Yes you can take your own photos while you are there. However this is not intended to be open for photo shoots.

How do you know when to pick a zinnia?

Zinnias will last in the vase about the same regardless on what stage they're harvested (unless they're just about dead and gone to seed, but they're not so pretty at that stage so they're very easy to avoid!). Young "un-ripe" zinnia stems however can be prone to bending post-harvest. Ripe stems will hold much more reliably.

Ripe stems will rigidly sway whole stem and all when tapped, where as un-ripe zinnias will wobble all over the place when tapped.
